What is the flipped classroom?

In a traditional classroom, students take notes in class (which is a pretty easy task for students) and do more higher order thinking work at home on their own.  A lot of times students struggle doing their homework because it requires more challenging thinking skills.

The flipped classroom flips things around.  Students will watch videos and take notes at home, then participate in more higher order thinking activities in the classroom, where they have the support of their teacher and classmates.
